Thirty-One Butterflies, 24"x 24"
In our classroom, we study the life cycle of the butterfly and watch first-hand as our classroom caterpillars turn into butterflies. Our third graders are also changing and growing each day. It is amazing to watch them grow academically and socially. Mandela, 24" x 24"
Students in our class were inspired by Nelson Mandela. Students traced his image from a photo (found on the internet) and each child cut out and layered tissue paper to fill one of the color sections, creating his image. We used blue to emphasize the idea of not judging someone by the color of their skin. Students found quotes by Mandela and we surrounded him with these. - Mrs. Brewer

PRIMARY COLORS, 24”x24”
The inspiration for K1's canvas came from our study of primary colors. Each student chose a primary color or white and applied it to the canvas straight from the bottle. Some chose their favorite primary color, while others looked at the canvas with an artist’s eye and chose a color to balance out the canvas. Some applied the paint with gusto and some were more timid. All students experienced delight in squeezing the bottle and watching as their paint interacted with the other colors and the canvas developed before their eyes. - Mrs. Maher

A LESSON FROM KANDINSKY, 24”x24”
Each scholar in Room 7 learned about Wassily Kandinsky, then blended their knowledge of warm and cool colors from All the Arts lessons to create their own concentric circle. Students first created a rough draft using colored pencils then brought their design to create with paint on their 4"x4" square on the final canvas. It was so interesting to see each child's personality surface through their design and painting styles. - Mrs. Given
